yay rights
"As
of this morning, my home town of Philadelphia is officially the largest
US city to protect our Trans* community with a bill of this magnitude.
Passed City Council 14-3. Here's the summary of what it covers:
Amending various titles of The Philadelphia Code to provide for
equality of treatment of all persons in the City of Philadelphia
regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation, including by
further providing for the definition of "Life Partnership" and "Life
Partner," and for protections, rights, benefits, and responsibilities of
Life Partners; authorizing a tax credit or credits to encourage
employers to expand certain health benefits; providing for gender
neutrality in certain City forms and online websites; providing for
access to public accommodations based upon an individual's gender
identity; providing for gender-neutral bathrooms in City-controlled
buildings; providing for the right to dress consistently with one's
gender identity; ensuring the right of transgender individuals to
request name and gender changes on pertinent records; and by other
measures; and making conforming changes; all under certain terms and
conditions."

This is the third year running that Strong Families has commissioned a group of artists to design Mother's Day cards featuring "low-income moms, young moms, immigrant moms, single moms, incarcerated moms, queer moms, and moms struggling with substance abuse," among others.
to see all the cards:
the search for meaning
"Meaning, I think, comes from doing a full accounting of your limitations
and assets, your passions and your weaknesses, your belief system and
your fears, and then rubbing up against the things that cause you to
panic, like an allergy skin scratch test, and find out what your
reactions are. Once you figure out how you can contribute to the greater
good, once you’re able even to define that, you take that information
and pour yourself into one direction. Regardless of discomfort or
regrets or what-ifs. (And then doing that over and over again, until
death.) That does not fit on a T-shirt. That to me is more important
than bliss, which would really just lead me back into bed, maybe with a
bowl of corn flakes…"
positive self talk, a fresh perspective
"And then I started bawling. Not because I’d miraculously allowed myself to suddenly believe in the positive words I was saying, but because I’d been able to see how routine the negativity had become, how cruel I’d been to myself on a regular basis, and it was shocking to feel something inside of me that had been dimmed for a very long time, to recognize that maybe there was something good there, something worth saving, and that maybe all my brain needed was a little encouragement from the healthy side of me, as opposed to a constant stream of bullying from my illness. When your brain is constantly telling you you’re worthless, ugly, stupid, unlovable, evil, horrible, mean, disgusting, etc., it gets easy to believe, even when it isn’t true. Taking a second to say, “Wait a minute, I’m not worthless,” may sound foolish (watch out—there’s that bully in your mind undermining you), but it actually brings you back to a state of control over your own thoughts, and the more you repeat it, the quieter that mean voice in your head becomes. Eventually, the positive thoughts are the ones that come naturally, and you can spot the negative ones creeping in from a mile away, no longer automatic, but sinister and nasty and worthy of this response."

the asgarda
something I came across while browsing some feminist communities on facebook, this cult-like society sounds kind of empowering, and is a great example of what is so interesting about culture. in my fantasies they are badass fighters that rescue others from sex traffickers.
